Year 5L 2020 - 2021

Mr Biggs

Welcome to our class homepage.

Our class teacher is Mr Biggs and our teaching assistants are Ms Green and Mrs Burns

Good morning everyone,

I hope everyone is well and had a lovely Christmas and New Years.

After Monday night’s announcement, we've been working to get bits ready for our children to enable them to carry on learning. As a school, we've decided to use Google Classroom as our main tool for home learning. This allows children to upload the work they have completed and submit it to us so we can mark it and give feedback. We will also be using SATs companion in Year 5 to set Maths and grammar based tasks. The letter attached in files below gives more detail about Google classroom and how to access it. I have also uploaded a Google Classroom tutorial video below.

We have uploaded a version of all of this week's lessons to Google Classroom. We have created logins for each child, which will be posted on Seesaw to each individual child. In addition to this, Mrs Burns will be phoning round this morning to give children their logins. We will also begin to record some lessons and introduction videos for tasks going forward to support children with their learning.

I totally appreciate there will be a learning curve with this as it is new to both us, yourselves and children and I understand the pressures of home learning. If anyone is struggling to access Google Classroom there will be hard copy packs available from the school office from Wednesday 6th January 2021.

We also sent out the CPG Year 5 books before we broke up for Christmas just in case another school closure or lockdown happened, so children can work through these. Children also have access to websites such as Reading Theory and Times Tables Rockstars.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mr Biggs

Things to know:

Timetable:

Monday: Homework now to be done online. We have signed the children up to Times Table Rock Stars and Sumdog for children to do their maths homework. In addition to this, the children also have a Reading Theory account to practise their comprehension skills. We ask that children spend half an hour a night on one of the apps.

Monday: Our timetabled P.E lesson is a Monday afternoon  PE kits must be kept in school at all times. Due to the current situation with Covid -19 we will be sending home PE kits to be washed every two weeks instead of at the end of the half term.

Friday: Homework to be returned, spelling and times tables test.

Reading books will be changed when a book has been read, diary signed and reading task completed.

New safety measures - we will keep a book in school to read with your child. Books in book bags will be for home reading only. We will need to quarantine these every week so please return to school each Friday in order for us to leave them over the weekend and changed on a Monday only, if they have been read, understood and signed.

Please read with your child every day.

Our attendance target for this year is 97%. It is important that your child attends school regularly and punctually so that they can achieve their full potential. Children need to be in school and on time everyday arriving between 8:40am and 8:50am ready for lessons to start.
